Heat Recovery System (HRS)
TECO-Westinghouse has teamed up with L.A. Turbine (LAT) to design and deploy a Heat Recovery System (HRS) with “green energy” CO2 capture capabilities, applicable for the utility and oil & gas sectors. The LAT-designed turboexpander drives TECO-Westinghouse’s high-speed generator to recover energy from a natural gas pipeline compressor station.

High-Speed Direct Drive Expander-Generator
In most cases, the operating speed of the expander with this design will be at a higher RPM than the operating speed of the generator. It is, therefore, necessary to utilize a speed reduction gearbox to facilitate appropriate coupling speed for the unit.
Alternatively, for some applications, LAT can incorporate a high-speed generator in the design. The expander is directly connected to its input shaft thus avoiding the need for a costly and complicated gearbox.
