Turboexpanders: From Aftermarket Pioneer to OEM Player

In 2003, L.A. Turbine (LAT) took a pioneering step to enter the turboexpander market as a provider of aftermarket services for all makes and models of turboexpander equipment and quickly became the go-to FX-TURBO experts. In 2007, LAT took another bold step by entering the turboexpander arena as an OEM and has manufactured 150+ units since. These application-specific, highly engineered turboexpanders are used in hydrocarbon processing, geothermal power generation and other industrial power recovery or refrigeration applications. LAT turboexpanders are designed, engineered and built in its Valencia, California facility.
Recently L.A. Turbine broke new ground with the delivery of ARES AMB Turboexpander, the industry’s first active magnetic bearing turboexpander featuring an on-skid AMB controller and PLC.
LAT continues to provide aftermarket support for its installed base of LAT machines plus services non-OEM equipment around the globe with its team of FX-TURBO field technicians.

Products

LAT turboexpander configurations include expander-compressors with either active magnetic bearings (AMB) or oil bearings and an expander-dyno (oil brake) machine. Other specialized turboexpander design options include an expander-generator and high-speed direct-drive expander generator.
Engineering Design

Turboexpanders are highly engineered machines operating under extreme pressure, temperature and speed. To ensure each turboexpander meets the performance, flow and quality requirements, L.A. Turbine uses multiple engineering approaches in the design process. All engineering design and development processes are ISO 9001:2008 compliant.
