Expander-Compressor
These high-speed machines are typically used within the natural gas, petrochemical, and air separation industries. As high-pressure gas is expanded across the turbine, the energy potential in the gas is extracted and transferred through the shaft and to the compressor. The resultant pressure reduction combined with efficient energy extraction produces the refrigeration necessary for cryogenic gas processing.

Which turboexpander bearing solution is right for you?
Oil Bearing Turboexpander
LAT has extensive experience in building turboexpanders with oil bearing systems with either a standard sleeve bearing or tilt pad bearings. Whether the design represents a single-stage turboexpander or two-stage turboexpanders operating in series with a common auxiliary system on a single skid, L.A. Turbine can build it. Often better and faster than other OEMs.
Where the existing wheel is damaged and not suitable for reverse engineering, L.A. Turbine has the engineering capability, experience, and technology to design a new wheel.

Active Magnetic Bearing (AMB) Turboexpanders
Turboexpanders equipped with active magnetic bearings (AMB) are available in two designs for the controller and the programmable logic control panel (PLC). Either an on-skid configuration where both the controller and control panel are mounted on the skid platform with the turboexpander and installed within the hub of the plant processing area. Or the off-skid configuration, where the controller and control panel are located away from the skid and installed in a separate building, often designated as the control room.

Off Skid Controller: AMB Turboexpander
L.A. Turbine offers an AMB turboexpander-compressor with the controller and programmable logic control (PLC) panel located away from the turboexpander skid.
Why choose an AMB controller and panel located away from the turboexpander skid?
The off-skid approach is ideal for plant operators who prefer to locate their AMB control system and panel in an unclassified/safe area, thus eliminating the need to have a purged system at the installation site. L.A. Turbine provides an off skid AMB control cabinet solution for customers who prefer a traditional AMB configuration.
